Improving living conditions. (Bedrooms)

Are you a business or trades person with a passion to help your Community and improve living areas for children and elderly?

Please get involved! Poor living conditions have a real detrimental effect on mental and physical health for many young children and elderly people. The education of children can suffer as a result of an unsuitable bedroom with lack of sleep and mental well being.  Many families live in poor conditions and the effect on society can be huge.

Providing a fresh, warm and comfortable bedroom can improve health and well being greatly. We have some amazing local companies on board all offering time, skills, materials and resources to help.  We are always looking for more businesses and tradespeople to help with our room refurbishments, the more help we have the more genuine people we can help. This could literally mean helping us do one room per year!

As this service involves hundreds if not thousands of pounds worth of time, materials and resources given free we do have a strict criteria for those applying.

A lovely family from the Croxteth area of Liverpool who had suffered awful circumstances over the last few years were referred to us from a family support worker who recognised there was a need for help within the home, especially in the 3 bedrooms of the children.

How do I apply?

We do have a detailed application process people need to go through to be eligible for the bedroom refurbishment. Due to such high demand for this service we do prioritise those referred from schools, local organisations or professional bodies in Liverpool. If referring yourself you must be able to produce 2 professional references and clearly show you match our criteria. The process includes an initial submission form on this website (improving living conditions),  an informal meeting at our office, a home visit and further application form. We then produce a full report to our board of trustees to make the final decision. 

Please Note: An Hour For Others is fully committed to inspiring and empowering people to play a part in creating a better community, every single one of us is special and has it within us to be leaders in our community and role models to our children.  In some circumstances we would like to see people engage in a number of hours of positive AHFO community activities before we consider giving time, skills, materials and resources for free within the home.
