When I had the idea for An Hour for Others it had dawned on me that if I wanted to see a positive change in my life and in the world around me then it wasn't just magically going to appear. Nobody was coming along with a magic wand to fix the problems I seen in the world. If I wanted to see more kindness then I had to bring more kindness into my daily life, if I wanted to see community working together and helping each other then I had to start making the effort of helping my community. This is the same concept in any area of our lives, if we want to lose weight then we have to work toward a vision of a slimmer version of ourselves, it's not just going to happen by itself, we have to put the effort in and make changes in our lives to see that vision become reality.
Just stop and think deeply about it. Ask yourself these questions - What changes do you want to see in your life? Who is going to bring those changes about? Who is responsible for creating the life you want to live? When do you want this to happen?
Complaining about things, pointing fingers, abusing each other, getting angry will change absolutely nothing at all. All the solutions lie within each one of us, when we take accountability and responsibility for the world around us and begin to raise our own standards and actively begin to live and breathe how we want to see the world, then that's when we will begin to see real change. There is always a better version of ourselves to step into each day, personal development and growth never ends, we learn everyday from every experience we have.
Nobody is going to do this for us, we have to look at ourselves first and foremost and face our own issues, what habits do we have that are causing us harm? How are we turning up each day? Are we helping those around us or actually harming them? Can we choose to stop attaching to negative thoughts and replace them with positive ones? Are we respecting people around us enough and the environment we live in? Are we choosing to get involved in the drama of our modern society and creating more barriers between people? Are we looking after our health?
Once we raise our own standards and demand the best of ourselves then we will not accept anything less from the system we are part of.
These are just a few things we all need to face before we will see the positive change we all crave for. Nobody on earth can ever change these things for you, only you can do that. If not you then who?
