Giving Your Hour For Others

It’s been a busy time for An Hour for Others and last week Kevin challenged everyone to give a helping hand to someone less fortunate or well-off than themselves. Already there has been a fantastic reaction in the city and beyond. To give a few examples, our friends at Hub Communications gave up some time and money distributing warm food and drink to the homeless around Bold St. whilst Jason and Conor Morland took their friend Sid, who is blind, out for breakfast and some shopping. It was also wonderful to see that the kindness has spread to Norway where Kenneth Valdersne spent some time with an elderly neighbour and offered his phone number and assistance any time.

It’s been great to see people getting involved and nominating others to do the same, but remember, you don’t need to wait to be nominated, go out and do your Hour for Others and watch the small acts of kindness change our communities.

Seaforth Community Shop
We would also like to thank Lynne Higgins from the Seaforth Community Shop who donated tonnes of bacon, eggs and sausages to An Hour for Others. In turn, we passed them on to the Whitechapel Centre who continuously work to improve the lives of homeless people in our city. On behalf of the Centre we would encourage anyone who sees a rough sleeper on the streets of Liverpool to contact them, as they will be able to help. More info can be found here www.whitechapelcentre.co.uk/

Mamadou Sakho
Our most recent and well documented news comes after Liverpool player Mamadou Sakho donated his Hour for Others when he came down to assist with an hours painting and DIY in houses that will go towards helping people at risk of homelessness. We hope that his involvement will raise the profile of this initiative and inspire others to continue doing the same. Fundraiser
Finally we’d like to ask for your support at our fundraising night on 27th February at the Sylvestrian Club, Vauxhall. It is vital to us that we continue to raise money until we can secure sustainable funding. Having already brightened up the lives of hundreds of people, we want to continue to do so for a very long time.
Therefore if you can make the fundraiser, it would mean a lot to us if you would come down. Tickets are £6, please email anhourforothers@gmail.com with any queries or send your £6 to the same address via paypal and we will post your tickets out to you.

Thank you for your continued support,

New Projects For early 2015

Can you help? Volunteers skilled or unskilled needed and materials/donations etc.1. We have been approached by Vicki Cunningham from Southport who’s 10 year old son Noah suffers from Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, a muscle wasting life shortening illness. Vicki has asked for our help with the transformation of her garden which will improve little Noah’s quality of life massively. Noah is in a wheelchair and loves playing wheelchair football, his garden is too bumpy the way it is and the fact he has had spinal fractures mean Noah cannot play out there as it is.  The garden needs flattening out and artificial grass putting in to make it smooth and playable on the wheelchair, there is also a small building with a hot tub going in which is essential for Noah’s therapy.  We have already got a small army of 40 helpers all ready to get stuck in to make it happen, from Electricians, plasterers, landscapers, gardeners and groundworkers to butty makers and people just wanting to help in anyway!! I for one am willing to give amounts of my time for this. Anyone else willing to help or feels they can offer something for this cause please let us know anhourforothers@gmail.com Also follow @Teamnoahappeal on twitter and facebook.

2. Age Concern have asked if any of our volunteers can spare a couple of hours putting up a hand rail on a slope outside their poppy centre on Townsend Lane. It’s proving to be quite dangerous for the elderly walking down especially as the frost sets in. Email: anhourforothers <AT> gmail.com

3. We have many more projects planned across the city to help those in need, please keep your eyes out on our pages.

4. We have a fundraising night planned for Friday 27th February at the Sylvestrian club silvester street L5 8LS. Please email us for details anhourforothers@gmail.com

5. We are currently carrying out the work on a shoestring and are attempting to secure funding, any donations to keep our momentum building and helping us help others is vital and greatly appreciated at this time. Our paypal is anhourforothers@gmail.com – Thankyou.

COME TOGETHER AS ONE

It’s Coming Together

Just a further update. Our database of good people willing to help is growing everyday, thank you so much for the support it’s amazing.Behind the scenes we are putting in many hours in getting everything we need in place. We know there are so many of you chomping at the bit to get out there and help those less fortunate, we are too. There are lots of legislation and policies we need to get in place first. Everyday we are working on this, I haven’t had a day in work for a few weeks with sorting things out.

Everyday we have been having unbelievably positive meetings with great people involved in community groups, and social value within the city. We are all coming together with massive ideas which will benefit the City of Liverpool in the future.

Please be patient as we are here for the long run, and need everything in place to make sure we can ALL give maximum help and support to those who need it in our great city.

Thank you all so much

Donation of PlayStation 3 To Yates Court

One proud dad, just been with me little lad who’s 10 as he donated his PS3 with 50 odd games to Yates Court in Prescot. The centre houses families who have struggled to run their homes for one reason or another.

The PS3 will be used for game nights in the centre’s main room.

Our Liam didn’t want the money, he wanted it to go to kids less fortunate! Made up.

Hopefully we can help out more at Yates Court in the future.

Small acts of kindness

“Twenty five years ago, no one had a mobile phone but now it’s human habit … what’s to say that in another 25 years , going out to help someone in need for an hour or two isn’t also going to be human habit?” Kevin said.

“Small acts of kindness really can change the world.”

Something’s Happening Here

Just a little update, in under 2 weeks we are already amassing a small army of volunteers ready to help within our communities. We have gas engineers, joiners, roofers, painters & decorators, plasterers, electricians, landscape gardeners, window cleaners, etc all ready to donate time towards helping others in need.

We have had offers from a top childrens entertainment company, maths tutors, musical studios, a choir, beauticians, hairdressers and dance studios – all ready to give back to those less fortunate in our society and brighten up their lives in anyway they can.

Through our page people have offered goods they no longer need, televisions, washing machines, tables and chairs, couches etc. Through people like yourselves helping and getting involved we managed to send 4 local kids and 2 parents to Anfield in the top seats with meal included.

We have been putting hours in when we can at a community centre and brightening the place up for them.

We have had people as far as USA, Singapore, Scotland and London wanting to become involved and offering support.

The surface hasn’t even been scratched yet and already hundreds of decent people are coming together to make our world a better one to live in.

We plan on approaching the press very soon and spreading our message as far as we can, and asking for nominations from across the city on who will benefit from what WE are ALL putting together at this time. Without all of your help this wouldn’t be happening, please keep spreading the word and sharing.

All this has happened in 2 weeks, imagine what we can achieve together in 2 years and beyond.

‘All you need is love’
